Alison Layland

Biography

Alison grew up in Bradford, and lived in various parts of the UK before moving to mid-Wales in 1997, where she lives with her husband and two teenage children.

She studied Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Cambridge University and, after a brief spell as a taxi driver, worked for several years as a Chartered Surveyor before returning to her first love, languages, to become a freelance translator, from German, French and Welsh into english, in 1994. Several of her translations from French and German into English of novels and non-fiction titles have been published to date.

Her debut novel Someone Else’s Conflict, a “sensitive and compassionate thriller” set in the Yorkshire Dales with a backstory in the Croatian conflict of the early 1990s, was published by Honno in November 2014 and was featured as a Debut of the Month on the Lovereading website in January 2015.
