I have been writing for 20+ years, publishing many short stories in mainstream and small press magazines. My first novel, ‘Consider the Lilies’ won the Impress novel prize 2007 and was published by Impress books. It has recently been adapted for the stage by Clare Girvan. My second novel ‘Mere’ is to be published by Thunderpoint Books in May 2018. My writing heavily features place, specifically the area of West Lancashire where I live and the coastal area of North Wales. I have also written a biography of thalidomide Liverpool comedian Gary Skyner which was published in 2017 and a non-fiction book, Skelmersdale: The Making of a New Town which details the events leading up to the designation of Skelmersdale as the first of the Mark 2 new towns. I hold PhD in Creative Writing from Edge Hill university and am a member of their Narrative Research Group. I am also on the editorial board of the journal Short Fiction in Theory and Practice and contribute book reviews to the journal on a fairly regular basis. I live in Skelmersdale and take a keen interest in the locality.
