Biography

Spook Teaching is a company that facilitates and performs creative literacy workshops, where we use the literacy curriculum and the Spook’s narratives to deliver high quality reading, writing and drama activities.

I and my colleagues  perform in character as spooks or witches. Our workshops are based on my father’s novel The Spook’s Apprentice (Joseph Delaney) and subsequent Spook’s series.Black COver showing mysterious Wizard

I have also been published, adapting The Spook’s Apprentice into a play, along with with complimentary guided reading and writing activities making it an educational resource.

I have been a mainstream primary school teacher for 12 years, and now teach supply to fit around workshop bookings.

Workshop & Reading Experience

I have performed over 120 workshops  from Years 3 to Year 9 in schools. I have also started to perform library sessions where the focus is on story-telling and writing. The workshops have been as far north as Blackpool and as south as Kent, where I did a week long tour for the D for Dart

literacy programme in Dartford.

Our company also does CPD training for teachers on teaching in character.

Thank you for a very entertaining and worthwhile experience. The children were so inspired to write and their enthusiasm was due to your entertaining and thought provoking lessons. It was fantastic to witness the children engaging with the writing process. I have read their stories and it is evident that not only did they thoroughly enjoy the sessions but also gained a lot of knowledge and skills. Year 6 Teacher, Ravenscroft Primary, Kirkby

Steve’s Spooks performance was extraordinary with lots of passion and fantastic role play. I have worked in libraries for two years now, and have never seen anything like this before. I felt the children really enjoyed the whole session and will certainly remember the day. Overall, an educational, fun and informative experience, with lots of excitement and useful advice on becoming an author and more importantly, never giving up. Tara Lloyd (Library Assistant, Wigan Library)
